The problem

Finding doctors online was getting easier. Trusting them was still hard. The MVP didn’t give users enough information to evaluate doctors.

What I changed

I used 30 user interviews to redesign search, comparison, doctor profiles and booking.

Impact

The redesign shipped, with credentials and reviews at key decision points and one design system across every screen.

My role and contribution

I conducted the user interviews, mapped the journey, designed the UI end to end and built the design system, working alongside a second Product Designer.

01Context

An early MVP, ready to reach more users

GoCare was an emerging platform for finding doctors and booking online. The business wanted more users and higher booking conversion.

Choosing a doctor online was still unfamiliar to many people, so we started by learning how people choose doctors and what makes them trust that choice.

02Discovery

The real problem went beyond usability

A heuristic evaluation revealed inconsistencies in the UI, visual hierarchy and accessibility. For example, white text on the brand-green buttons had a contrast ratio of only 2.3:1.

To understand the deeper challenges, we interviewed two groups.

15

Non-users

How they traditionally found and chose doctors.

15

Existing users

What stopped them from making a decision or completing a booking.

Key insight

Trust came from other people’s experiences

Offline, people chose doctors through recommendations from friends, family or other healthcare professionals. On GoCare, they had no way to judge a doctor’s credibility or quality.

The real challenge

The challenge wasn’t finding a doctor. It was finding a reason to trust one.

03Design direction

Bringing offline trust into the online experience

Two design priorities emerged from our research. They shaped the redesign of the entire user journey.

Priority 01

Professional credibility

Make doctors’ qualifications, specialties and experience easier to evaluate.

  • Specialty
  • Education
  • Years of experience
  • Licence number
  • Memberships
Priority 02

Patient experiences

Bring patient reviews and ratings forward to support informed decisions.

  • Star rating
  • Review count
  • Rating breakdown
  • Written reviews

The new journey

01Home & discovery

Make discovery easier

Search by doctor, specialty or need, with popular specialties one tap away.

GoCare guest home: search by doctor, specialty or symptom, a city field, and popular specialties.
Start from any needDoctor, specialty or symptom.
Bottom sheet explaining why GoCare asks for location, with Allow location and Choose city instead.
Location, when neededAsked only at the first search.
Returning user home with a greeting, the next visit card and quick access to specialties.
Pick up where you left offThe next visit, front and centre.
02Search & results

Help users compare doctors

Ratings, availability and price on every card, so doctors are easy to compare.

Search screen with specialty and city fields and popular specialty chips.
Focused searchSpecialty and city in one place.
Results list of cardiologists with rating, next availability, distance, visit type and price on each card.
Compare at a glanceRating, time, distance and price.

03Doctor profile & reviews

Build trust through doctor profiles

Credentials and patient reviews help people choose with confidence.

Doctor profile: photo, name, specialty, 4.9 rating with 38 reviews, next availability, location and visit types.
Trust signals firstRating and reviews up top.
Full doctor profile: experience and education, services, rating breakdown, recent reviews and similar specialists.
Credentials, then reviewsScroll inside the frame.
04Appointment booking

Make booking frictionless

A simpler flow, with sign-in only when it’s needed.

Availability sheet with a month calendar, the selected day and morning and afternoon time slots.
Pick a time firstPrice always in view.
Log in to book sheet showing the held appointment time and a mobile number field.
Sign in when neededThe slot is held for 10 minutes.

05Design system

One consistent design language across the product

Reusable components with shared type, spacing and colours, built for readability and accessibility.

What I took forward

Trust isn’t a single feature. It’s built from small signals at the moment of decision: a doctor’s credentials, a patient’s review, a clear price. Next time, I’d define success metrics before launch to measure how much these signals change decisions.

Let’s talk about this project

I’m happy to walk through the details, Figma files and the decisions behind this work.
